Final Exam

Assalammualaikum one and all....

We have ( almost ) reached the end of our semester . Congrats to all for surviving the semester . Hope that all of you have learned something ( if not everything ) that your lecturers have taught you all through this semester. Good luck in your exam and do your best to SCORE and not to just PASS . A high cgpa in your early semesters would really help you in your coming semesters.

Practicum

Assalammualaikum and a good day to all...

I was quite surprised to see that my last entry was in June . It is Now the end of September. How time flies without you realising it .

It is also the second month of practicum ( more or less ) .  For the seniours , this is your second and final round of practicum. Whatever that you have experienced last practicum can be used as guidance in this second practicum. As for the first timers , the juniours , they are now facing the pupils for the first time . I am sure that you have lots and lots of stories to tell . Enjoy your practicum. Do not stress yourselves out by overdoing things. Go to bed early. Having said that , i have one particular concern that i wish to highlight .

Being a teacher is not a simple matter . It comes with responsibilities that are more than what we normally deal with. One of the many responsibilities is planning our lessons.

A teacher has to plan whatever it is that they want to teach beforehand to ensure that the lessons will be successful and that the pupils will gain something from it. The plan for the lesson , also known as lesson plan , is usually prepared a day before the lesson proper . It is where we plan, what is it that we want to teach, the topic and the outcome that we want the pupils to gain. Apart from the plan , the teaching aids to be used in the teaching have to be prepared as well . As i mentioned above , a lesson plan contains all , the lesson , the outcome , the aids , everything ! Why does it have to be so ? Mainly because, it reflects us , the teacher. It shows what kind of person we truly are. Are we the 'boy-scouts' type ( the ever-ready kind of person ) , the 'couldn't-care-less' teacher ( with or without lesson plan is acceptable) or the rebel ( Lesson plans are a waste of time ) .

No matter what kind of teacher you are , the most important thing is you HAVE to prepare your lesson plan. It is a must for every teacher . As how a police officer has handcuffs , a rubber tapper has a tapping knife, a teacher has to have a lesson plan.  It doesn't matter whether your supervisor is coming to observe you or not. It is not for showing off. It is the description of your WORK . If you are caught WITHOUT a lesson plan by your supervisors , it surely speaks VOLUMES of the kind of teacher you are . Do you lesson plans on a daily basis. Never go to class without one . In schools , you are not a student , you are a TEACHER.

Selamat Hari Raya

Assalammualaikum ....Ramadhan Kareem ... in a few more days , Ramadhan will be leaving us .... So ends another holy month ...

A week before was the end of the first semester of 2018....including an auditing session by SIRIM.... glad that's done and over with.

Now ....concentrate on Raya . Forget your sorrows , your classes in the coming semester and your whatever that are negative . Focus on positive thoughts because i was told that our minds are like a magnet . If we focus on positive thoughts , positive things will come to us and the same goes for the negative. Surround yourself with positive people . Open yourself to new ideas and prepare to make changes . Accept bad comments  that people make towards you , swallow them and use them to make a better you . Believe in yourself .

Second semester , a second chance at getting good results ...better than last semester . Good luck people and again ....

Assalammualaikum and a great day to all...

Here is something that i would like to share regarding writing called transition words and phrases. We have been using them for years without knowing what to call them . Yet , they are very important in ensuring that our writings flow and sound beautifully .

Transitional Words and Phrases
Updated lists by Joanna Taraba taken from  http://writing2.richmond.edu/writing/wweb/trans1.html

This page only provides a list of transitional words; be certain you understand their meanings before you use them. Often, there exists a slight, but significant, difference between two apparently similar words. Also remember that while transitions describe relationships between ideas, they do not automatically create relationships between ideas for your reader. Use transitions with enough context in a sentence or paragraph to make the relationships clear.
Example of unclear transition:
The characters in Book A face a moral dilemma. In the same way, the characters in Book B face a similar problem.
Improved transition:
The characters in Book A face a moral dilemma, a contested inheritance. Although the inheritance in Book B consists of an old house and not a pile of money, the nature of the problem is quite similar.
Examples of Transitions:
Illustration
Thus, for example, for instance, namely, to illustrate, in other words, in particular, specifically, such as.
Contrast
On the contrary, contrarily, notwithstanding, but, however, nevertheless, in spite of, in contrast, yet, on one hand, on the other hand, rather, or, nor, conversely, at the same time, while this may be true.
Addition
And, in addition to, furthermore, moreover, besides, than, too, also, both-and, another, equally important, first, second, etc., again, further, last, finally, not only-but also, as well as, in the second place, next, likewise, similarly, in fact, as a result, consequently, in the same way, for example, for instance, however, thus, therefore, otherwise.
Time
After, afterward, before, then, once, next, last, at last, at length, first, second, etc., at first, formerly, rarely, usually, another, finally, soon, meanwhile, at the same time, for a minute, hour, day, etc., during the morning, day, week, etc., most important, later, ordinarily, to begin with, afterwards, generally, in order to, subsequently, previously, in the meantime, immediately, eventually, concurrently, simultaneously.
Space
At the left, at the right, in the center, on the side, along the edge, on top, below, beneath, under, around, above, over, straight ahead, at the top, at the bottom, surrounding, opposite, at the rear, at the front, in front of, beside, behind, next to, nearby, in the distance, beyond, in the forefront, in the foreground, within sight, out of sight, across, under, nearer, adjacent, in the background.
Concession
Although, at any rate, at least, still, thought, even though, granted that, while it may be true, in spite of, of course.
Similarity Or Comparison
Similarly, likewise, in like fashion, in like manner, analogous to.
Emphasis
Above all, indeed, truly, of course, certainly, surely, in fact, really, in truth, again, besides, also, furthermore, in addition.
Details
Specifically, especially, in particular, to explain, to list, to enumerate, in detail, namely, including.
Examples
For example, for instance, to illustrate, thus, in other words, as an illustration, in particular.
Consequence or Result
So that, with the result that, thus, consequently, hence, accordingly, for this reason, therefore, so, because, since, due to, as a result, in other words, then.
Summary
Therefore, finally, consequently, thus, in short, in conclusion, in brief, as a result, accordingly.
Suggestion
For this purpose, to this end, with this in mind, with this purpose in mind, therefore.

Welcome 2018

Assalammualaikum and a good day to all ...

So ends another year ... So much has happened in 2017 that are sure to be remembered and reflect upon . Gone were the regrets of actions that could have been carried out in a different or better way and welcome the days that we pray will be better than last year .

Language Development 2 is mine again this semester . Hope i will have more fun and enjoyment than what i had the last time i taught the subject .

My main concern this semester is the Digital Innovation in Teaching and Learning subject . It is a new subject and i am assigned to teach it . Being a new subject , i will have to come u with everything , the assignments, learning tasks , quizzes and presentations. Luckily , i have senior lecturers who are able to teach literally ANYTHING .

When i look at the photo above , taken in 2013 when i first started teaching in IPG Ipoh , i tend to realize that those days were MORE challenging . Our lecturers' block was under repair and we were stationed in a TENT . I remembered thinking " I left my school for THIS ?" .

2018 ...May Allah love us more this year and shower us with His blessings the whole year through .
